Health Determinants Of A Patient With A Diagnosis Of Copd...

When assessing a patient, there is a lot more to know than what can be observed through a physical or psychological exam. Things such as the patient’s education, genetics, access to health care, living environment and more also need to be considered. These topics are among many others that can alter an individual’s health and risks for developing other health related issues. These are known as health determinants; many factors in combination with one another that affect the health of individuals and potentially the community in which they live (WHO 2014). Not all health determinants can affect individuals and communities in a negative way, but knowledge about many of these determinants give health care professionals an idea about how to approach care for their patients. When analyzing a patient with a diagnosis of COPD and anemia, understanding the context of that patient’s life can help determine the patient’s health as well as assist in how to approach t reatment for this individual. Throughout this paper, three health determinants of a patient with a diagnosis of COPD and anemia will be identified and discussed in relation to how these determinants influence the patient’s diagnosis and their ability to manage their care. Patient â€Å"DD† is a 56-year-old woman who was admitted to a nearby hospital for respiratory failure.
